The Practice

To survive since 1946 in the choppy waters of the building industry does show a fair level of commitment as a practice. Although Covid 19 has caused difficulty throughout the construction world we are pleased to have had the resilience to continue with our work, projects and our service to clients.

The practice is shared by Tina Gough and Colin Haylock. Previous partner Robin Dower and associate Chris Baglee are both now our Expert Consultants still bringing their individual expertise to the practice when required. We employ a workforce of highly experienced architects, including Associates Bryony Roff and Clare Grundy.

Additionally we share offices and work with our sister practice ‘xsite architecture’. They have a strong reputation in design led regeneration, commercial, residential and cultural projects which complements our work.

Able to work independently, or collectively as a team with xsite, we are well equipped to tackle a wide range of projects. Enthusiasm as a personal trait is an important measure of our employment policy as is a willingness to give every project the attention it needs to achieve the high standard outcomes for which we have become known.

Meet the team

Spence & Dower

I joined the practice in the 1980’s. It was known then as a practice of integrity and professionalism, creating quality designs through friendly personal service. What has changed? Workload is slightly different now, responding over the years to shifting economic conditions, new concerns about climate change and client expectations, but our underlying philosophy about the way we choose to work remains the same.
