West Oak Farm Broomley, Northumberland

A cluster of four unique spacious homes

A disused farmstead in a Conservation Area has been transformed through retention of the traditional historic fabric contrasted by contemporary extensions. These have vertical timber clad walls and metal roofs.

When this project won an RIBA Hadrian Award the judges stated:

“The scheme makes four dwellings out of an old farm and sets new standards for the re-use of derelict agricultural buildings in the region. The forms of the new buildings echo an industrial aesthetic and are robustly detailed. The interiors make the most of their south-facing aspect whether looking into courtyards or onto open countryside.”

The project was also recognised in RICS Awards.
