Dunstanburgh Castle
Three phases of masonry repairs on the South Curtain wall and most recently on the East and West Drum Towers of the Gatehouse have been carried out on this fourteenth century castle, a scheduled ancient monument. The latter phases completed in 2009 involved the removal of hard and damaging scotch pointing, carried out in the early half of this century, repointing using lime mortar, the renewal of selected badly weathered stones, trial areas of shelter coats and mortar repairs to deep crevices and areas where water would pond in the characteristically weathered stone work typical in this part of the property.
