Berwick Ramparts

The mainly Elizabethan ramparts at Berwick have been described by English Heritage as the most ‘complete and breathtakingly impressive bastioned town defences in England’. Recently Spence and Dower have been involved in several projects based at sites around the ramparts and castle with a view to improving public health and safety with the formation of new sensitively designed guarding, handrails and gates. Previous projects have also included reroofing the grade II* eighteenth century Magazine building and works to buildings within the confines of the listed eighteenth century barracks.
