RIBA and RICS Awards

We are delighted to have been awarded a RIBA Hadrian Award for our project at West Oak Farm, Broomley, near Stocksfield, Northumberland.

The judges stated: ‘ The scheme makes four dwellings out of an old farm and sets new standards for the re-use of derelict agricultural buildings in the region. Historic accretions to the farm buildings have been stripped away and the new lightweight structures with timber panelling and metal roofs have been well integrated. The forms of the new buildings echo a modern industrial aesthetic and are robustly detailed. The interiors make the most of their south-facing aspect whether looking into courtyards or onto open countryside.’

This project was also recognised in the North East RICS Awards earlier this year.

I joined the practice in the 1980’s. It was known then as a practice of integrity and professionalism, creating quality designs through friendly personal service. What has changed? Workload is slightly different now, responding over the years to shifting economic conditions, new concerns about climate change and client expectations, but our underlying philosophy about the way we choose to work remains the same.
